Colorado Association of School Executives
Department of Business Officials (DBO)
PLEASE GET INVOLVED! Education is facing tremendous pressures from many fronts. If DBO is to maintain its position as a strong, collective voice for school business officials, it is essential that members become engaged in department governance. Active involvement of individual DBO members is essential to the success of our department and our association. Nominations are being accepted to fill the following positions on the DBO Board of Directors. If you are a Full-Active Member of DBO/CASE, you are eligible to nominate for these roles.
(3) Directors-at-Large – Voting by eligible (Full-Active) DBO Members was unanimously in favor of the recently proposed DBO Bylaw amendments to provide two (2) additional Directors-at-Large on the DBO Board of Directors. (Please click here for a review of DBO President Bill Sutter‘s communication, the proposed amendments and the voting results/summary.) The third opening is a result of longtime DBO Board member Don Trujillo’s completion of his board term and his retirement. In order to maintain somewhat staggered term-end dates, two (2) of these positions will have full terms of September 1, 2016 – August 31, 2020, and one (1) position will have a shorter term of September 1, 2016 – August 31, 2019.

The DBO Board of Directors sets a general direction for our department, including adoption and oversight of a department budget, management of general department affairs, and direction of all department-sponsored programs and activities. The DBO board serves as a valuable resource to CASE officers and management personnel. On an ongoing basis, CASE relies on the advice, knowledge and expertise of DBO board members to assist in the creation, revision and implementation of the policies and procedures that govern the association‘s accounting functions, reporting requirements, and all general business activities.
The Board of Directors also appoints DBO department representatives to the CASE Legislative Committee, Professional Learning Advisory Group, and Membership Committee. These representatives provide input regarding the legislative advocacy, professional learning requirements, and membership needs specific to the interests and needs of DBO members.
The DBO Board meets four times each school year, and meetings usually last up to four hours. Lunch is provided and roundtrip mileage associated with the meetings is reimbursed at the current rate authorized by the IRS. Board members must be Full-Active Members of CASE/DBO when elected and remain so throughout their terms of office. (If you have any questions about your current member status, please contact the CASE office.) The DBO Board actively participates in the CASE Winter Leadership Conference and Summer Educational Leadership Convention, and board members actively plan and participate in an annual DBO pre-conference session associated with the winter conference.
