How do you encourage creative thinking within your organization?

I provide purpose-driven leadership and a safe space for people to take risks to think beyond the normal. I inspire my learning community to dream big for students and then I collaborate with them to carry their ideas through to full implementation.

Where do the great ideas come from in your organization?

100 percent, great ideas come from us -- inside us, our experiences, our connections, all around us! To be a part of our learning community is what it would feel like to be a cloud in a lightning storm. The energy that is created from one idea to the next and the enthusiasm to make great ideas, grounded in a clear purpose, a reality for our diverse learning community is inspiring. We have achieved great things for children -- together!

What is one characteristic that every leader should possess?

Every leader should possess the ability to believe in and cultivate the very best in people with whom they work. When people know that you genuinely care and take the time to help them grow, there is nothing that you can’t accomplish together as a learning community.

Who has had a major impact on you as a leader, and why?

My mother. She provided me with a solid foundation of core values and a strong work ethic. She modeled sincerity and honesty, humor and humility. She fearlessly stood up for what was right even when it wasn’t popular. She enabled me to grow by offering her love, her unwavering support, and her eternal optimism. I owe everything to her.
