2017 CASSP Distinguished Service Award

~ Carrie Yantzer ~

  Carrie Yantzer served as the president of the Colorado Association of Secondary School Principals (CASSP), one of CASE's seven departments, for the 2016-2017 year. She is also currently serving the community of Nederland Middle / Senior High School in the Boulder Valley School District as their principal. Thank you, Carrie, for all that you do for Colorado's students!  Join us in celebrating this outstanding principal leader!

How long have you served in your current position, and how long have you worked in education?
I am entering my 2nd year as the principal of Nederland Middle/Senior High School in the Boulder Valley School District. I spent 19 years as an administrator in Delta County School District, 16 years as the principal of Hotchkiss K8 School. I have been honored to be in public education for 25 amazing years!!


What is one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess?
PASSION - every leader needs to have that incredible drive to make a positive difference everyday! My definition of passion is to love and education every student to the best of my ability every day! I absolutely love what I do and feel blessed to be in this awesome profession. Administration is a not always easy but our teachers and students make it worth it.


What advice would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time?
Get involved in CASE! It is an incredible organization! CASE has been instrumental in my administration career. The networking with colleagues is outstanding, the professional learning is top notch, and the advocacy that transpires constantly is incredible.
