Improving student attendance is an essential and cost-effective yet often overlooked strategy for ensuring Colorado students are on-track to learn and succeed.
Nationwide, one out of 10 students is chronically absent, meaning they miss at least 10 percent of school days (about a month). Chronic absence is an early indicator of academic trouble and/or dropout.
CDE recognizes that good attendance is essential to student achievement and graduation and is committed to dedicating resources and attention to reducing chronic absenteeism rates. Communities, families and schools all have a vital role in promoting good school attendance as well.
