Timberview Middle School Assistant Principal Tom Andrew Named Colorado 2013-14 Assistant Principal of the Year

Tom Andrew was honored at an eighth-grade assembly at Timberview Middle School, Thursday, November 14.

“We are recognizing Tom as our 2013-14 Assistant Principal of the Year for his educational leadership and for his commitment to creating an inclusive culture of excellence in his school,” said Colorado Association of School Executive’s (CASE) Communications Director Greg Benchwick. “The children, staff and community of Timberview are very lucky to have a leader that is remarkably passionate about education and has the skills to empower his students to succeed.”

Andrew was nominated by Timberview Middle School administrators, a teacher and a parent. He is praised for his commitment to each student and commended for his tenacity and steadfast focus on student learning.

One parent wrote, “Mr. Andrew is truly a collaborative leader. We always get a feeling of camaraderie and respect between Tom and his teachers. He appears to genuinely care about the well-being and mentoring of his teachers.”

Andrew began his education career as a teacher at Carmel Middle School in Colorado Springs Harrison School District 2. He joined Academy District 20 in 1999 as a teacher at Air Academy High School. He served as dean of students at Rampart High School and has been the assistant principal at Timberview Middle School since 2006. He has represented Academy District 20 on numerous Colorado Department of Education committees and provides leadership on current district committees and task forces.

“We are grateful for Tom’s many contributions to our students and staff members and are pleased that the selection committee agreed that Tom is an outstanding education leader,” said Dr. Mark Hatchell, superintendent of Academy District 20.

Andrew is now a candidate for 2014 National Assistant Principal of the Year. That award will be announced in February 2014.

The 2013-14 Colorado Assistant Principal of the Year Award is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, Virco, the Colorado Association of Secondary School Principals and CASE. It recognizes outstanding secondary school leaders who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students.
