CASE Announces New Executive Director
Dr. John C. Hefty has been named Executive Director of the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE). Hefty has been superintendent of the Brighton Public Schools since 1998. He will assume leadership of CASE June 14.
Hefty is well known in the Colorado education community. Prior to his service in Brighton, he was superintendent in the Eagle County Schools and deputy superintendent in the Jefferson County school system. For 22 years he has been an adjunct professor at the University of Denver in the school executive preparation program.
Hefty’s extensive experience in large urban, mountain, and growing Front Range districts will enable him to effectively represent the interests of school leaders statewide. He understands what it takes to develop high-performing schools. “Leadership is key to improving schools, Hefty said. “As executive director of CASE, I will champion excellence in school leadership, building on the expertise that currently exists across the state. I am convinced that effective leadership is central to school improvement and results in stronger student performance,” he said.
CASE President Gayle Jones said the association is delighted to welcome Hefty. “John brings outstanding credentials to this position. He has been an active leader at the state level in committee and policy work, and he is highly respected by his colleagues statewide,” Jones said. “John will continue the tradition of strong leadership at CASE,” she added.
Hefty is completing his 40th year in education. He began his career as a junior high school science teacher in Wisconsin. He earned undergraduate and advanced degrees from the University of Wisconsin. John and his wife Juanita are parents of three grown boys.
Hefty will replace Bob Tschirki, who is completing a one-year appointment as executive director of CASE.
Established in 1969, the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE) is an organization of more than 2,000 school administrators committed to improving student achievement through promoting and building quality education leadership in all Colorado schools.
