2017 CALET Outstanding Friend of Technology Award

~ Arlene Salyards ~

Arlene Salyards serves as the Director of Special Projects for Northeast CO BOCES. Thank you, Arlene, for all that you do for Colorado's students! Join us in celebrating this outstanding principal leader!

How long have you served in your current position, and how long have you worked in education?
22 years in Education; 16 in my current position.

What is one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess?

What is the biggest challenge facing leaders today?
Too much! There are so many different initiatives; it’s hard to decide where to focus your attention. It’s been my goal to stay focused on what’s important and that’s students. They are why we are in this business.

What books are you currently reading or have you recently finished?
Simply Better by Bryan Goodwin

What is your proudest moment or accomplishment as a school leader?
The CALET Friends of Technology award. I have always wanted to accomplish something that really made a difference for districts. Finally, our “rurals” have received competitive broadband pricing that is common in urban districts and the impact is a direct benefit for students! I couldn’t have done this without my colleagues/team. They are the best!

This award will be selected by the CALET board in spring 2018. To find out more about how you can get involved with this department, contact
