How long have you served in your current position, and how long have you worked in education?
I have had the honor of serving with the East Central BOCES as the Director of Technology for 11 years and have spent 14 years in education in total.

How do you encourage creative thinking within your organization?
An environment that fosters creative thinking from your team means one in which ideas can grow and develop without knowing the final outcome in advance. Few things that are new were created by doing things the same way we always have.

Where do the great ideas come from in your organization?
Great ideas can come from anyone, the ability to lead means first accepting that you don’t have all the answers, and that you haven’t failed because of that.

What do you know now that you wish you knew at the start of your career?
Learning how to put trust in others to get the job done. The accolades of hero culture can be seductive, but the distinction is short lived and can lead to burnout for you and your team. Learning to achieve balance means greater capacity for the long term.

This award is chosen by the CALET department in spring 2018. To find out how to get involved more with this department, contact
